Hi there! Here's a little exercise for you to do:
- Browse a newspaper in English (you have links on the right column) and choose a headline you would not have understood before studying the vocabulary we're learning in class.
- Now that you know the vocabulary, explain the headline in your own words, with an appropriate complete sentence.
- You may also want to do a bit of research on the political leanings or ideology of the newspaper you chose. That's a type of cultural content worth learning about.

The Guardian is a left-of-centre British newspaper, traditionally concerned about social issues.

New Veterans Hit Hard by Economic Crisis (New York Times-Washington)--> People who has recently come back home from war is now having trouble because of the economic situation in the Country.
New York Times is an American Democrat daily newspaper.

Globe & Mail is probably a newspaper with liberal political ideologies...(?)
"Crisis triggers chain reaction in U.S. industry"( Financial Times) It´s affected even the chemical industry what wasn´t predictable at the begining of the year.
Financial Times focuses strongly on both national and international economic matters,and can be considered pretty much neutral politically.
"Tories pledge economic protection" (The Vancouver Sun").
The current government promises help to face up to the financial crisis.
The Vancouver Sun is one of the two more important newspapers in British Columbia. I don't know if it's supported by any ideology.

Jordan, a glamourous model, is going to attend a trial as she was finned because of an excessive velocity.
"'Eta head' linked to airport bomb" (BBC News) --> The man, who was the main person or head of the terrorist group ETA, is connected to terrorist attack at Barajas Airport. The terrorist attack was a bomb in the parking.

The scrap business is being affected by the credit crisis.

The Guardian is unabashedly left-of-centre british newspaper. It´s tradicionally been a paper of social protest.
