A certain way of speaking, esp. in North America, is associated with being "cool" (I find it annoying and somehow a bit stupid). It consists in using lots of empty words like "like" and "you know" and finishing your sentences with the intonation of a question (rising intonation). Ya know what I mean? ;-)
