Madrid's Leisure Guide - Group project

You're going to create a leisure guide of Madrid for English-speaking visitors to our city. You're going to work in groups and each of you will be in charge of a different area:
- restaurants and other places to eat.
- nightclubs or pubs.
- museums and art galleries.
- sightseeing places.
- fun for children.
- cinema and concerts.

Think about ONE place you would recommend in the area you were assigned. Once you have decided on the place, write a paragraph (maximum 50 words) where you include:

- A brief description of the place or tour.
- The reason why you recommend it.
- Don't forget to include the address, underground station, (average) price, or other important details your readers will need.
- You may want to use a picture to accompany your text. (Google one in "Creative Commons").

When you finish writing your text, give it to a partner for peer revision. You should put all the six texts together and email me one Word document per group. The final version of your guide will be published in this blog.

The best leisure guide about restaurants and other places to eat in Madrid:

There are a lot of kinds of restaurants and other places to eat in Madrid. If you want to go with your partner to a special restaurant I recommend you several of the best restaurants in the centre of Madrid. One of the best of this is “La Capilla de la Bolsa”, which is on La Bolsa Street and there you can celebrate a special day as a wedding anniversary. There is another good romantic restaurant to this occasion in Atocha Station: “Samarkanda”, where you can eat all kinds of meals too. Both of these restaurants have one inconvenient, they are very expensive, so if you prefer a less expensive restaurant, there is an new, colourful and lively restaurant near Bailén Streat, on Morería Street (Plato&Placer), where you can eat many kinds of meals or choose the special menu, really cheap. It includes five dishes more or less and it’s very romantic too. This is a good restaurant to go with your friends too if you prefer it.

But if you prefer to go around the centre of Madrid and know the best places for tapas, you can start your visit in Lavapies Square, where you can walk along Argumosa Street with lots of bars where you can drink beer or good Spanish wine. Or if you prefer to eat good seafood, such as the best prawns of Madrid, you must go to “El Boquerón” in Valencia Street and then you can continue walking along Lavapies or Ave María Streat where there are good bars too between Lavapies and Sol or Latina district.

Enjoy your meal!

I would recommend to visit the restaurant-disco “Lay-Down”, which is near Gran Via.

The place is characterist because it has a few beds and different shows, performances, dragqueens, gogos, dance teachers…etc. The food is not the best and the pub is a little expensive.

Depending on the day, there will be different parties. Last week it was “The Beach party” and the decoration was coconuts in the room, sand on the floor, the music was salsa and there were “mojitos” and cocktails to drink.

There is no dress code.

The adress is Plaza de los Mostenses 9 28015 Madrid - 91 548 79 37‎

The best place to spend one morning with your children.
You could go to The Museum Reina Sofia to enjoy the most Modern paintings of the last century. Children can paint with their fingers, sitting on the floor , inventing stories about the pictures they are watching and painting. For this activity it is necessary to ask permission to the Museum. Call telephone number 91 5304287 . The Museum is on 52 St Isabel street and the nearest tube station is Atocha. Enjoy the art morning!!

If you want to go to a cinema or a concert, I would recommend you to go a Real Theatre. There, you can see and listen to an opera in live or in cinema.
The Real Theatre is situated in the centre of Madrid, in a small and beautiful square, Isabel II square, opposite the Real Palace. You can go by underground or by bus. If you choose the underground you must take the line number 2, red one, or the number 5, green one, to Opera. But you can go by bus catching the lines 3, 25, 39 or 148, it depends on your position at that moment.
You can visit the web www.teatro-real.es and check the dates and timetables of the different operas and you can even buy the tickets on the Internet. There are several prizes depending on the zone, the version,… and it also depends on if it is in live or in cinema. The opera in live is very expensive if you want to be in a good zone, about 100 €, but is about 15€ for the young zone.
It is worth to visit the Real Theatre, it is a beautiful building and there are great views from there.

Dear students (who came to class on Friday March 12),

thanks for the good job you did in the computer room. I'm sorry that we didn't have enough time for all the texts to be checked. I'll print them and give them to you next Tuesday so that we can still correct some things.
I think the mini-guides are going to look very good!
Have a nice weekend and see you next week!
